The Power of a Prophetic Word

What turned the woman at the well in John, Chapter 4 from a prostitute and an unbeliever to an evangelist that helped bring salvation to those who were living in her town? A simple prophetic word or revelation received from the Father and spoken by Jesus. He knew things about her life that He could not have known having just met her. He received a revelation from the Father about her current and past living situation (a Word of Knowledge) and as He spoke it out it changed her. It was that powerful. It always is.

Jesus did not know this woman. He had never met her before as He had never travelled this area before. What He knew He knew by revelation. As John puts it in His Gospel, “He did not need man’s testimony about man, for He knew what was in a man.” (John 2:25 NIV)

What is it that turns a sinner into a soul-winner in a matter of a few minutes? It is Jesus’ use of the revelatory gifts of prophecy and a Word of Knowledge. Yes, there were other factors as well:
1> He was willing to ignore the cultural prejudice of talking to the opposite sex in public places like a well.
2> He ignored the bann on Jews talking with Samaritans
3> He spoke to her in a way that was relevant to her life and where she was at during this time in her life
4> He did not answer questions she was not asking.
The list could go on-and-on (see the resource section – The Jesus Style – Parts One and Two on the 12 principles of supernatural evangelism as found in John 4’s encounter between Jesus and this woman.)

The point: The thing that catches her attention and indeed arrests her heart is that Jesus speaks prophetically “everything I ever did.”

Today, if you want to effectively win the lost you must do the same. This means you need to be baptized in the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:8 and Acts 2:1-5) and learn to flow in the revelatory gifts that come with the Baptism and accompany the power to witness. These gifts, listed in 1 Corinthians 12:4-11, can help you to do what Jesus did which is exactly what He said He requires of you (John 14:12).

Jesus never did get that drink of water.
