As we begin 2009 – the year of the Lord – I am reminded that it is “in Him that we live and move and have our being” (Acts 17:28); that He is “the beginning and the end, the Alpha and the Omega” (Revelation 1:8). So, everything we do in this new year must start and end in Him and with Him. We are to start a new year “in Him” and with “Christ in us” and we are called and chosen to walk each day of this new year the same way. Because of this, the good work He has begun in us He will bring to completion (Philippians 1:6). It is my prophetic sense that this is a year when things will get serious for those who are true, born again believers in the Lord Jesus Christ. That for the nominal Christian who follows the Lord at a distance but who attends church regularly things will become a bit unstable as new choices arise – some of which will have a tendency to lure them away from their local church and into error. Few will find themselves joining the ranks of the committed disciples of the Lord. For the Church attendee who comes at Christmas and Easter, funerals and baptisms … nothing will change. They will continue in their rituals and religion thinking they are right with God.
As a result of all this we will see those in whom the Lord has begun a good work stand tall but often with fewer standing with them – and, at times, standing alone. We will see the hand of the Lord working on behalf of those who confess Him publicly as He brings to completion the good work that He has begun in them. Many sincere, dedicated believers will be branded as “radical revolutionaries” and pushed out of the churches they now attend – even those known to be born again and Spirit-filled churches. New churches will be planted where those who have a deep passion for the Lord and, as a result, a compassion for the lost will feel welcomed and will be trained and released to become workers in the Lord’s Harvest.
New networks of churches will spring up as if over night and will be led by young men and women who will not appear old enough (chronologically or spiritually) to be leading in such a movement but they are the chosen of the Lord and are much wiser in the things of the Lord than their years can account for. They are God’s instruments to plant and lead spirit-filled, soul-winning churches in North America. This will be the start of a new breed of Church yet unseen on this continent – God-birthed and Jesus-exalting churches whose primary focus will be the winning, discipling, training, equipping, mentoring, and releasing of disciples into the harvest field world-wide.
This will not be a quiet work nor one that is birthed in solitude or obscurity. It will be the result of a series of very public and, at times, very messy events in the Kingdom. It will not be accomplished without some serious conflict but then the Lord said that He did not come to bring peace but a sword (Matthew 10:34). The growth of these new networks will be supernatural and a challenge to the spiritual leadership and the five-fold ministry teams that will lead them. But, in their weakness God will show Himself strong. Miracles, signs and wonders will accompany the preaching of the true gospel of Jesus Christ in the streets and market place. The ministries of healing and deliverance will, once again, be powerfully seen and many will witness the supernatural as that which is incurable is cured and that which is impossible in the natural becomes possible.
The Lord states that a new season has now come upon the true Church – and those who are members of the true Church will be drawn to where they can express their passion and compassion freely and openly without shame. And, they will attract those who are not saved but who are hungry for the Truth and serious about walking in the things of God and the Truth will set them free as they join the exploding ranks of these new churches that the Lord is raising up this year of the Lord 2009.
