As new creatures in Christ we are supernatural in nature. We were created in God’s image and He is a supernatural God. Once we are connected to Him relationally by being born again we enter the supernatural realm and walk with Him on a daily basis.
The supernatural and the natural realm co-exist. In the place you are sitting and reading this there is the natural realm but there is also the supernatural realm. As new creatures in Christ we are now able to see both realm, live in both realms, and minister from one realm to the other. We are able, as 1 John 1:1-4 states, to see, hear, and touch God. This is truly the most exciting thing about the Christian faith – heck, about all of life. We can see and hear our Heavenly Father and know His heart towards us, His plan for our lives, and His purpose for us being here.
Those who don’t have this personal relationship live in the natural realm and often have no clue why things are happening. Of course, the supernatural realm (also known as the spiritual realm) is impacting them the same as it does us. However, they don’t know it. They see everything as “natural” and are unaware of the domain of darkness that they live in and the way the ruler of the darkness, the devil himself, is influencing them and their walk in this world. They are deceived – self-deceived – thinking that the natural is all there is. They often miss the whole supernatural realm because the devil keeps them spiritually blind so that their minds do not comprehend the light of the Gospel of the Kingdom and the Saviour, Jesus.
Our task? Pray for them that their minds would be open to hearing the Gospel and that they would be in their right minds when considering the claims of Christ and the offer of eternal life as found only in Him. Pray that God’s Word will go deep into their hearts and bring forth the fruit of salvation (we are born again by God’s Word – 1 Peter 1:23). Pray, as well, about your role in letting those you relate to know the saving grace of Jesus Christ and that He is the only way into Heaven.
Welcome to the supernatural ministry of Jesus that you get to share. And, there is nothing more supernatural than seeing someone rescued from the domain of darkness and brought into the Kingdom of Light (Colossians 1:13).
There is a second encounter after being born again. This is known as the baptism in the Holy Spirit. When a born again child of God wants to walk in the fulness of what God has for them and desires to do all that God calls them to do – they need this encounter or experience.
The Bible states that if we ask our Heavenly Father for the Holy Spirit that He will not withhold His hand and deny your request. In other words, God wants you to have the baptism in the Holy Spirit and the power more than you do. He is simply waiting for you to ask for it. When you receive and then walk in this experience you will have the power needed to be a proper witness for Jesus. This is what Jesus Himself said to His people just before ascending into Heaven (Acts 1:8).
The early church received this power in Acts 2:1-5 and never looked back. They spoke in tongues, declared the goodness of God, saw people healed, delivered, and set free. Thousands came to The Lord. Religious leaders were converted to the faith. Whole towns and cities were turned upside down by the revolutionary Gospel of the Kingdom and disciples who walked in power and were determined to do as Jesus commanded – “go into all the world and make disciples…” (Matthew 28:19).
Jesus told us that we would do the things that He did (John 14:12) and to do so we need the power that He walked in. He received this power when He was baptized in the Holy Spirit (Mark 1) as we also do. So, if you have experienced this second encounter with God and can speak in tongues then you are walking in the power.
How come then that you don’t see miracles, signs and wonders? Simply! You need to step out in faith and speak to others about Jesus. He promised to back us up and do miracles, signs and wonders to confirm the message we preach. If we are not telling others about the Gospel of the Kingdom then He has nothing to confirm and thus we won’t see miracles, signs and wonders. However, if you stand up and step out – He will show up and show off supernaturally as He promised in Mark 16.
The Christian faith is an invitation to a relationship with a supernatural God and thus an invite to be supernatural. Say yes and jump in.
Jesus invites us to live a different lifestyle then those who do not know Him. It is a supernatural lifestyle lived out in the natural. He invites us to allow the supernatural to invade the natural through us where we live, work, and play. All we need to do is say yes and then be baptized in the Holy Spirit. This is the beginning of the adventure. Jesus said that when the Holy Spirit comes upon us that we will receive power to be His witnesses. Power, supernatural power in the natural real so that we can do what He did and still wants to continue doing through us – His Church in the world today.
When we receive this power we also receive the supernatural gift of a private prayer language that enables us to pray in new ways, to build up our faith, and to release the power of God that we have received so that we minister supernaturally to those around us. This power can bring with it a variety of other gifts – all available to us when we need them and as the Holy Spirit decides. And, several with become “resident” within the empowered believer. These gifts are part of their calling to win the lost and the tools that the Spirit of God has given them to accomplish that task.
These gifts released as we move out of our comfort zone and speak to others about Jesus include: gifts of healing, working of miracles, word of wisdom, word of knowledge, and numerous others. Everyone also receives the supernatural ability to prophesy according to 1 Corinthians 14. So, empowered and equipped we can step out and fully proclaim the Gospel of the King – in words and with power. This then means that God will confirm the message we share and prove that we are speaking the truth and that Jesus is alive and the only way into Heaven.
Step out, trust God, and watch what He can do through you for others. Don’t hesitate. You will be amazed at what God can accomplish with just one willing heart who is loyal to Him.
