WHEN GOD THINKS OF YOU…

When God thinks of you – – And He does so continuously

He is excited about who you are

When we look at ourselves – think about our life – we see:
Our circumstances
Our current situation
Our relationships or lack of them with others
The hurts and wounds that keep us anchored to the past
Chains on the brains
Our job
Our retirement
Our wants and needs

None of these are who we are – they are simply the situation and circumstances of our life currently

When God thinks of you He sees who you really are “in Christ” because you are born again

And, then He looks at the:
Potential He placed within you
Leading to the opportunities that He is opening up in the days to come

We tend to look in the rearview mirror
God is looking forward through the front windshield

When you wake up in the morning He sings a song over you and your life

He sings it loudly for all of the heavens to hear

Zephaniah 3:17 “The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.”

Exalt:
Rejoice
Be joyful
Be happy
Be pleased
Be glad
Be delighted
Be elated
Be ecstatic

World English Bible: “Yahweh, your God, is in the midst of you, a mighty one who will save. He will rejoice over you with joy. He will rest in his love. He will rejoice over you with singing.”

The Message Version: “Your God is present among you, a strong Warrior there to save you.
Happy to have you back, he’ll calm you with his love and delight you with his songs.”

The overall impression is that God loves you and is excited about who you are “in Christ”

The fact that you are His son or daughter

The fact that you are a “new creature in Christ” His Son (2 Corinthians 5:17)

The fact that you are a “minister of reconciliation” sharing the Good News of Jesus who reconciles all who want to humble themselves and come to God the Father (2 Corinthians 5:18)

The fact that you, just as you are right now, are an ambassador for Christ representing His Kingdom of light in the domain of darkness (2 Corinthians 5:20)

In Ephesians, Chapter One it states that we, His children, are:

Blessed
Chosen
Predestined
Redeemed
Forgiven
Loved
Given wisdom
Given insight
Given an inheritance
Sealed
Receive revelation
Have enlightened hearts
Hopeful
Graced
Empowered
Victorious

But, we often don’t see ourselves the way God sees us…

And, we don’t release and embrace our full potential as a result of the way we see ourselves

Recently I heard a song in a service where I was ministering in another country…

I want you to watch and listen carefully

Song video:

Here are the words …

I keep fighting voices in my mind that say I’m not enough
Every single lie that tells me I will never measure up
Am I more than just the sum of every high and every low?
Remind me once again just who I am, because I need to know (ooh oh)

You say I am loved when I can’t feel a thing
You say I am strong when I think I am weak
You say I am held when I am falling short
When I don’t belong, oh You say that I am Yours
And I believe (I), oh I believe (I)
What You say of me (I)
I believe

The only thing that matters now is everything You think of me
In You I find my worth, in You I find my identity, (ooh oh)

You say I am loved when I can’t feel a thing
You say I am strong when I think I am weak
And You say I am held when I am falling short
When I don’t belong, oh You say that I am Yours
And I believe (I), oh I believe (I)
What You say of me (I)
Oh, I believe

Taking all I have and now I’m laying it at Your feet
You have every failure God, and You’ll have every victory, (ooh oh)

You say I am loved when I can’t feel a thing
You say I am strong when I think I am weak
You say I am held when I am falling short
When I don’t belong, oh You say that I am Yours
And I believe (I), oh I believe (I)
What You say of me (I)
I believe

Oh I believe (I), yes I believe (I)
What You say of me (I)
Oh I believe (oh)

We have voices in our mind that we need to fight and defeat

Your emotions have a voice
Your opinions have a voice
Your thoughts have a voice
Your friends
Your music / radio station
Your work place
Your favourite television programs
Your former religion
Your family
Your traditions
The region where you live
The demons have a voice

They keep saying in numerous ways…
You are not enough
Good enough
Smart enough
Lucky enough
You are not holy
You are not good looking
You are not loved
You don’t have any real friends

You are not enough
You never measure up

All of these voices compete with the still small voice of the Spirit of God speaking the words of the Father about you / over you

All of these voices compete and often drown out what the Holy Spirit is saying to you – about you

In the midst of all of these voices there is the voice of the Father that we need to learn to focus on…

So, the words of the song say:

I keep fighting voices in my mind that say I’m not enough
Every single lie that tells me I will never measure up
Am I more than just the sum of every high and every low?
Remind me once again just who I am, because I need to know

And, the song picks the four key ones today

Key in your life as a believer
Really strong in the life of the non-believer who lives with Jesus

You say I am loved when I can’t feel a thing
You say I am strong when I think I am weak
You say I am held when I am falling short (accepted)
When I don’t belong, oh You say that I am Yours

We need to believe what God says and what God sings about us and no longer allow the other voices to dictate our self-image – – who we believe and know we are

Again, the words of the song:

What You say of me
I believe

God says:
You are loved
You are strong
You are embraced in His arms ( accepted)
You belong to Him – He is your Father

The song:

The only thing that matters now is everything You think of me
In You I find my worth, in You I find my identity

And we need to learn to do that – make this a reality

Look through the windshield and no longer in the rearview mirror

And, this only happens when we give ourselves totally and without reservation to Him every day

The song:

Taking all I have and now I’m laying it at Your feet
You have every failure God, and You’ll have every victory

Romans 12:1-2 “I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”

The Message Version: “So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.”

This is the key to experiencing – encountering God’s love and hearing the song that He is singing over you and your life

Video: “The Story Behind ‘You Say’” Lauren Daigle

So whether you are in a good space or a tough spot…

The song:

The only thing that matters now is everything You think of me
In You I find my worth, in You I find my identity

Your worth and your identity

Not in what others think of you
Not in your job
Definitely not in any ministry you might have
Not in what you have accomplished
Not in what you do for others
Not in what your friends say about you

You need to know who you really are – the real you – “in Christ” and then embrace and release that ‘new creature in Christ’

But, the key to all of this is “I believe”

You say I am loved when I can’t feel a thing
You say I am strong when I think I am weak
You say I am held when I am falling short
When I don’t belong, oh You say that I am Yours
And I believe (I), oh I believe (I)
What You say of me (I)
I believe

QUESTION:

What does it mean to say “I believe”

Ending worship:

Prayer…
