Transformed By The Power

The Christian faith is meant to change people

When we meet Jesus and are born again we enter in to a journey of constant and consistent change

Because God states that He is immutable – never changes – as we walk with Him we are the ones who change

Being born again means being on a journey to become the person God created us to be

The person that the world squeezed into its mould and altered from the original design

It is more than knowing our final destination – Heaven – and just sitting and waiting until we get there

This is called Destination Disease and causes people to be apathetic and lethargic

Being born again means we not only uncover and dig out, for the first time, to real “you” but we also discover the very specific thing that God has called us to do

The Bible states:

Ephesians 1:11a (The Message) “It’s in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for…”

A few weeks ago I met a man in his early thirties called Ruben Hernadez (picture)

Your immediate thoughts – feelings?

He has been born again for almost 2 years

Owns his own business

Is working with – a leader in – 3 house churches in Morden, Manitoba

He is discipling and mentoring almost a dozen young men

Powerfully in love with Jesus

Before he met the Lord he was:

A drug addict

A drug dealer

A gang member

A loner

A man with a gun who knew how to use it and did

Someone every police officer in the region knew

Was always in trouble

And, spent a great deal of his time in jail

One night he came home from a normal day – normal for him – and realized how empty he was inside and how meaningless his life was

He did not like who he had become and what it was he was doing

He took a shower and tried to wash to filth he felt off his body and it didn’t work because the problem was on the inside not the outside

He went in to his living room and, in his own words:

“I laid down on the floor buck naked and said, ‘I don’t know you God but I need help. I need You! … Here I am – this is me – I want to belong to you and not this gang so take me and do whatever it is you want to do with me.”

That night Ruben became a new creature in Christ

2 Corinthians 5:17 “Now we look inside, and what we see is that anyone united with the Messiah gets a fresh start, is created new. The old life is gone; a new life burgeons! Look at it! (The Message)

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” (English Standard Version)

The Christian faith is meant to change people

When we meet Jesus and are born again we enter in to a journey of constant and consistent change

Because God states that He is immutable – never changes – so as we walk with Him we are the ones who change

Being born again means being on a journey to become the person God created us to be

The real person that the world squeezed into its mould and altered from the original design

Being born again means we not only uncover and dig out, for the first time, to real “you” but we also discover the very specific thing that God has called us to do

The Bible states:

Ephesians 1:11a (The Message) “It’s in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for…”

But, we have turned the Christian faith into a religion

We do a lot of things – pray, worship, fast, read our bibles, give, fellowship

But, these have become rules we follow and fulfill so we feel good about ourselves

We do these things because they are expected of us and because we feel good after “performing” them on a supposed daily basis

They are rules we follow and things that we do – performance religion of the born again variety

But, they don’t change us because they are not God – and only God can transform our lives

Only God knows what we are to look like – the real you – and only God can bring that real person out into the light for all to see

In most believers lives the Gospel has not brought about change – the “new creature” still remains hidden

They read the Bible and hear teachings collecting information – a head thing

They have not let the lord of God – the Bible – touch their hearts and change them

Information and not transformation

The Bible states:

Romans 1:16 “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes.”

There is power in the message of the Gospel of the Kingdom

Ruben Hernadez encounter the living God on the floor of his living room – buck naked – that night and the power of the Gospel … God … changed him

Side story:

The next day I was having my first coffee with his pastor – who I will be working with at the end of the month introducing the Baptism in the Holy Spirit to his church

He mentioned that Ruben’s home – full of people from off the streets and coming out of the same lifestyle he once lived – had been raided by the police

I texted him as soon as I got in my car (and I quote):

“Hi Ruben, was in Morden this morning – heard your house was raided by police. Never know if rumours are true. Hope things are okay. Praying for you. Ralph (we had coffee yesterday with Anne)”

His text back:

“That’s not me – that’s big Ruben Riemer. I’m Ruben Hernadez”

Even his pastor does not believe the Gospel of the Kingdom

His pastor does not believe that he has changed and that this “new creature in Christ” is emerging from within and changing the outward behaviour and life-style

His pastor does not believe that he is a “new creature in Christ” and is being transformed

Ephesians 1:11a (The Message) “It’s in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for…”

Ruben found out who he really is and is now living that discovery out

Ruben found what his call in life is – winning the lost and discipling them and he is doing it

Everyone has two calls on their lives … a general call and a unique and specific call

General call: “Go into all the world and make disciples…”

Ephesians 2:10 … John 14:12

Specific call: Something unique that you were created to do

What you are called to do

With whom are you to do it (team)

Where are you to do this

When are you to do this

How are you to accomplish this

Why are you going to do this

Two nights later Ruben was at a prophetic meeting where I was preaching and ministering

Six teams prophesying … service started at 6:30 and ended at 12:30

People came from as far as 3 hours away to be a part of this and hear from God

And Ruben received a prophetic word that gave him very specific and unique details of the call of God on his life

Confirming many of the things he is already doing but revealing much more – a much greater future

Ephesians 1:11a (The Message) “It’s in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for…”

Let me introduce you to some famous and very, very wealthy people…

Video: A song by Korn … “Freak on a Leash”

And, your reaction is….?

Multi-platinum, Grammy award winners twice … multimillionaires … millions upon millions of followers around the world

“Not part of my world” you may say….

Well, think again!

Romans 1:16 “The Gospel is the power of God unto salvation for those who believe.”

Let me introuce you to a Christian brother… Brain “Head” Welch

Video: Korn Guitarist

Book: “Save me From Myself”

He discovered the truth of Ephesians 1:11

“It’s in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for…”

He left the band and is now working with “Happy and Holy Home Society” for kids in India

He sponsors “Brian “Head” Welch Home For Children” touching thousands of lives

He was born again by the power of the Gospel

His life has been totally transformed into “a new creature in Christ”

He discovered who he is and what God has called him to do

Yes – when he was born again “Christ came to live in him”

“Christ in you” (Romans 8:10)

But don’t forget – you are now to live your whole life “in Christ”

“A new creature in Christ”

He was born again – became a true disciple of Jesus

He was baptized in water

Public declaration of his faith in Jesus

Became a member of the true Church that Jesus is building

Died to self and rose to release the life of God within him

Last time I was here … video of the Gospel – Christ lives His life in and through us

He was taught what it means to be a child of God and a world-changer

He stepped out and began to do whatever God asked him to do

Matthew 28:18-20 “And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Romans 1:16 “The Gospel is the power of God unto salvation for those who believe.”

Three envelopes…. we totally disappear and He lives His life through us

But, for this to happen – for the power of the Gospel to transform our lives and not just inform our minds….

But for this to happen, like Jesus, like Ruben, like Brian we need to be:

Broken – needed so that God can replace our miserable self-life with His desires and intentions for our real life

But for this to happen, like Jesus, like Ruben, like Brian we need to:

Surrender – give up totally and give it all over to Jesus because He is God

But for this to happen, like Jesus, like Ruben, like Brian we need to:

Yielded – to the Holy Spirit and His daily direction for our lives

NEXT WEEK’S TEACHING…

Listen:

Every person in the world is searching to discover who they really are and the reason they are on this planet

Every person inside their very centre is looking for answers to:

Who am I?

Why am I here?

But, a person can never know this without first finding Jesus and knowing Jesus

Teresa of Avila once heard Christ say to her in prayer (a believer in the early 1500’s) :

“See yourself in Me”

When we find ourselves in Christ, we start to find Christ in ourselves and in each other (community)

Life makes sense and falls into place when Jesus gets first place

Life is what you make it

Abundant life is what Jesus makes it

“It’s in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for…” (Ephesians 1:11a)

So many believers do not know who they are

Too many believers are living for:

The weekend

The next long weekend

Their holidays

Their retirement

The next drink, smoke, drug high, meal out…

It is time to discover the power of the Gospel to transform and totally change lives

Information is good – we need to know what the Bible says

But, the purpose of the Bible and prayer is to help us know the Author and as we come to know the Author we are transformed into His image – Transformation

“To find out who we are and what we are living for…”

So, Brian “Head Welch’s life change as a born again believer and disciple in Jesus had an impact on Korn – the band he helped to form and make world famous

It planted seeds in Reggie Fields Arvizu … another band member

Video: “How he found Jesus and stayed with Korn”

Amazing what Jesus can do when a person surrenders and gives their life fully to the Lord!

“It’s in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for…” (Ephesians 1:11a)

And each had a unique purpose for which they are living

Brian left Korn and moved into ministering to orphans in India and other ventures

Reggie stayed with Korn and uses Korn’s popularity to share Jesus with the fans

So, I have a said all this to point out:

1> You find out who you are by finding Jesus and thus who you are “in Christ”

2> “In Christ” you are a totally new creature and amazing in God’s sight

3> Your new life is a journey into discovering more and more of who you are “in Christ”

4> The Gospel is the power of God to change you into His image as you journey

5> The position we must be in for this to happen is surrendered, broken, and yielded

6> Once you begin this journey “in Christ” you will find others and form community

7> Because we live in community we grow quickly into who we are “in Christ”

8> After we discover who we really are “in Christ” we can discover “what we are living for”

God’s plan and purpose for your life … general and specific

9> Many believers are “doing for Jesus” and wanting ministry before first starting the journey and discovering who they are “in Christ” and this leads to defeat and emptiness

10> Many started on the journey and stopped growing and changing having caught destination disease and now live at ease without a challenge or a purpose

11> This all brings glory to God and we then live according to His will for each one of us

Ephesians 1:11 “It’s in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for. Long before we first heard of Christ and got our hopes up, He had His eyes on us, had designs on us for glorious living.”
