Loving God, Equipping People, Mentoring Leaders, Reaching Nations
For a lot of Christians I talk to – things are not exciting nor dynamic in the Kingdom or in their Christian walk. Church is ho-hum like coffee without Coffee-mate (remember the old ads). And their daily walk with the Lord is not much better and is, in some cases, even worse. Bible reading and prayer long ago lost their cutting edge and have just become a religious routine. Going through the motions without the emotions.
It should not be like that. It should never be like that. IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT IT NOT BE LIKE THAT.
If being born again means entering into a personal relationship with the Living Lord Jesus Christ and it does (see below) – then being a Christian should be the most exciting adventure we could ever be a part of. Catch that – exciting adventure! No time to yawn. No time to daydream. No time to have your mind wander. Not something that should put us to sleep as we have our “quiet time”. I refuse to call my daily time of chatting with the Lord a “quiet time”. I don’t want the Lord to be quiet – I want Him to speak to me.
Being born again – a Christian – means we are walking with God throughout our daily events and activities. Exciting! Dynamic! Powerful! Or, at least it should be.
Want to know what is missing? Sure you do! Ready for this – well, probably not really. But, never mind – let’s just jump right in…
Jesus said that when we follow Him – repent of our sins with godly sorrow recognizing that He died to pay the penalty for our sins; asking for and receiving forgiveness and a new life – that He would then begin the process of making us “fishers of men”. Been fishing lately? Ah, that’s the problem. That’s why you are bored with this Christian stuff. That’s why the passion is missing. That’s why the whole thing is so flat and so unexciting that you really never talk about the Bible, prayer, or what is happening in the Kingdom. Oh, you may talk about the Church and the pastor – but seldom does your conversation turn to meaningful things like rescuing people from the fires of Hell and helping them to receive eternal life.
Fishing is what makes the Christian faith the adventure it is suppose to be – living daily in expectation that the Lord will use you to show others that Jesus saves! Looking for and recognizing opportunities and open doors to let others know of your faith and your Lord and Saviour.
So, it is time to step out and let others know you are a Christian. It is time to tell others of the life-saving, life-changing Gospel of Jesus Christ. It is time to tell others what the Lord has done and is doing in your life. Then – and, I believe, only then – will the passion return to your walk. In fact, your walk just might become a trot or even a good jog because the Lord will use you mightily in so many ways and places that, at times, you will wish that He would slow down just a bit. You see, He came to seek and save the lost (Luke 19:10) and when He finds someone willing to do that – look out, it’s dangerous and fun.
A note connected to above:
When you accepted Jesus’ substitutionary death on the cross – that He paid the penalty for your sins, died in your place … He gave you the gift of “eternal life”. (Romans 6:23b).
The definition of this gift is found in John 17:3 where it states: “This is eternal life (watch out -here comes the definition) that you may know God the Father and Jesus Christ whom He sent.”
The word “know” is the same Greek word used where it says “Joseph did not know Mary until after Jesus was born”. It means intimacy – such as found when a married couple (man and wife) have sexual intercourse. This is God’s gift to the believer – an intimate, daily, dynamic, every-deepening, personal and unique love relationship.
How is your relationship with the Lord?
